Main application of SSAW steel pipe and difference with LASW steel pipe
The mainly application of SSAW steel pipe(Spiral submerged Arc Welded Pipes) is buildings, bridges, roads and other civil engineering construction. Also widely used for natural gas, oil, chemical industry, electricity, drainage, steam heating, pressure pipe use for hydro-power station, thermal power, water and other longer distance fluid pipeline and construction domain such as piling, dredging, bridges, steel structures and etc.
There are two points of the difference between Spiral submerged Arc Welded Steel Pipe(SSAW) and Straight Seam Welded Steel Pipe(LASW)
1. In terms of weld technical, the welding method of SSAW steel pipe is same as the LASW steel pipe, but the LASW steel pipe cannot avoid T-shaped weld, so the probability of welding defects will also increase.
2. In terms of material and metallurgical properties, the LASW steel pipe is manufactured with steel plate, but the SSAW steel pipe is manufactured with hot rolled coil. And the alloy content of coil is lower than the similar strength steel plate, so that the weld-ability of SSAW steel pipe is improved. Due to the coil rolling direction of SSAW steel pipe does not vertical to the steel pipe axis that same as the LASW steel pipe, the cracking resistance of the SSAW steel pipe material is better than the LASW steel pipe.
According to the above two characteristics, we can know that the blasting mouth will not appear on the spiral welding place if the SSAW steel pipe is broken, so the SSAW steel pipe is safety than LASW welded pipe. In additional, when there is a scar defect parallel to the spiral weld seam, due to the force of the spiral weld seam is lighter, the danger of spreading is smaller than the LASW steel pipe.
